Il sito transnazionale coinvolge l’Italia, la Croazia e il Montenegro. Le città che ospitano le opere dichiarate patrimonio UNESCO sono sono Bergamo, Peschiera del Garda, Palmanova per l’Italia; Zara e Sebenico per la Croazia; Cattaro in Montenegro, anche se l’ipotesi originaria della candidatura, eccessivamente complessa da portare a termine in questa fase, prevedeva il coinvolgimento di altre nazioni e città quali ad esempio Venezia, Hvar, Curzola, Herceg Novi e Ulcinj, ancora visibili nella sottostante mappa interattiva.
La selezione di questi luoghi riflette la storica suddivisione dei domini veneziani in Stato di Terra (Italia) e Stato di Mare (Croazia e Montenegro), affacciati sul Mare Adriatico un tempo noto come “Golfo di Venezia”.
